Chapter 30
The Montgomery GI Bill® - Active Duty (Chapter 30) (also called "MGIB" or "MGIB-AD") is an education benefit that provides up to 36 months of full-time payments to eligible veterans and service members for approved education and training programs. MGIB-AD (Chapter 30) may also be used to reimburse you for certain VA-approved national tests and tests for licensure or certification.

Chapter 31
The VR&E program is authorized under Title 38, U.S. Code, Chapter 31. It is referred to as the Chapter 31 program. It assists entitled Veterans with service-connected disabilities and an employment handicap to prepare for, find, and maintain a job. It also helps entitled transitioning Servicemembers. Ch 31 provides education benefits to assist you with employment if you qualify.

Chapter 33
The Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) helps you pay for school or job training. If you’ve served on active duty after September 10, 2001, you may qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33). Find out if you can get this education benefit.

Note: Veterans under this program are not eligible for the SBU Military Aligned Grant since the veteran's entire tuition and fees for each semester are paid in full by the VA and/or SBU.

Chapter 35
VA's Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35) program provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents and survivors of certain Veterans. (If you are rated at %100 service connected disability you will qualify for benefits).

Yellow Ribbon Program
St. Bonaventure is proud to serve our veterans as a Yellow Ribbon institution with no limit. St. Bonaventure will cover the costs of tuition and fees that exceed the $23,671 cap, as a benefit to eligible veteran-students. (must qualify for CH33 benefits at 100%).

SBU Military Aligned Grant
The SBU Military-Aligned Student Assistance Grant is intended to assure that 50 percent of tuition charges for all military-aligned students are paid through grants and scholarships that do not have to be repaid.
Eligibility:
- Must be registered on campus at St. Bonaventure as a half-time or more student
- Must file for all federal and state aid (i.e. FAFSA/VTAP)
- Must not be eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation Employment Program (Chapter 31)
NY State Veterans Benefits:
Veterans Tuition Awards (VTA) are awards for full-time study and part-time study for eligible veterans matriculated in an approved program at an undergraduate or graduate degree-granting institution or in an approved vocational training program in New York State. In order to qualify for this benefit you must have deployed.
